Reviews
“Timely in consolidating the current status and qualitatively extrapolating the future potential of various aspects of the carbon footprint in textiles and fashion processes and assessment options, serving as a valuable guide.”
—From the Foreword by Prof. (Dr.) Asish Kumar Samanta, Retired Professor and Head, Dept. of Jute and Fibre Technology, Institute of Jute Technology, University of Calcutta, India

The carbon footprint is a crucial ecological metric that quantifies greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the production and use of various materials. The textile and garment industry, one of the largest global industry, is associated with substantial energy use and considerable carbon impact, resulting in adverse ecological ramifications from excessive energy, water, and chemical consumption, the production of textile waste, and the release of microfibers into the environment during washing.

This new book, The Carbon Footprint of the Textile and Fashion Industry, provides a valuable overview of the carbon footprint associated with various natural and synthetic textile fibers and their products, offering an analysis of the issue as well as sustainable solutions for reducing the industry’s impact on the environment and use of available resources. The current literature has completely missed the linkage between important environmental and ecological aspects relevant to the carbon footprint in the production processes involved in the textile and fashion industry. This volume helps to fill that gap.

Chapters cover the promising advances for reducing the carbon footprint in textile and apparel manufacturing, in dyeing processes, and on its impact on the supply chain. The book considers the impact and relevance of fast and slow fashion as well as environmental and social aspects, consumer perceptions, training and certification in the industry as it affects the carbon footprint, and more.

This volume will be informative for academicians, industry personnel, and textile and fashion students and scholars who wish to expand their knowledge of field of carbon footprint in fashion and textile domain.
