In the dynamic landscape of smart materials science, the realm of shape memory alloys (SMAs) stands at the forefront of innovation and technological advancement. Shape memory alloys belong to a group of advanced materials exhibiting some exceptional properties like pseudoelasticity and shape memory effect (SME), making them applicable in many sectors. Their widespread popularity has reached new heights in robotics, biomedical, automobile, aerospace, electronics, civil construction, and many other fields.

This new book, Sustainable Developments in Shape Memory Materials: Manufacturing, Applications, and Challenges, explores the recent technological developments in shape memory alloys and their applications in different fields. It offers a holistic understanding of SMAs, from their fundamental nature and diverse manufacturing processes to their profound impact across various industries and their future potential.

Providing a comprehensive overview, the volume first covers the fundamentals and basic concepts of shape memory materials and then proceeds to outline the manufacturing techniques for shape memory materials, including the fabrication of shape memory alloys through casting techniques, through powder metallurgy technology, and through additive manufacturing technology. The sustainable applications of shape memory materials are highlighted, such as applications in the transport industry, in wind and solar energy technologies, for sustainable thermal energy storage applications, and for biomedical applications.

Providing a deep and nuanced understanding of SMAs in their current state, this timely and relevant volume sets the stage for future breakthroughs in the current industrial landscape. This will be a valuable resource for professionals and researchers working in the field of materials science and engineering with a specific focus on shape memory alloys. This includes manufacturing engineers, powder metallurgy specialists, researchers in materials characterization, faculty and students in mechanical engineering and materials science, and others.
