Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are necessary in sustainable chemistry because they are highly atom-economical, reducing waste by combining three or more starting materials into a single product in one step. This "one-pot" approach minimizes purification steps, energy use, and solvent waste compared to traditional multi-step syntheses. Additionally, MCRs increase synthetic efficiency by reducing time, labor, and the generation of byproducts, making them a powerful green chemistry tool for the rapid and cost-effective production of complex molecules. MCRs are used in drug discovery to generate large libraries of potential drug candidates quickly, synthesize complex natural products, and create diversity-oriented molecules as well as in materials science to produce a variety of compounds, including fused aromatic rings and other functional materials.

This new book, Multicomponent Reactions for a Sustainable Future: Eco-Friendly Synthesis Strategies and Applications, provides a thorough review of multicomponent reactions, emphasizing recent advancements, difficulties, and opportunities, discussing MCRs as a viable method for waste reduction, resource conservation, and environmental impact mitigation.

The volume covers the principles of MCRs and their utilizations, environmentally sustainable synthesis methodologies that use MCRs, the design and development of catalysts for MCRs, and the industrial utilization of MCRs. The book reviews the various name reactions involving multicomponent approaches.

Designed for researchers, students, and professionals in chemistry, materials science, and sustainability, the volume is a valuable resource for individuals aiming to investigate the potential of MCRs in fostering a more sustainable future.
