Intercultural communication in tourism involves an intricate understanding of the complex interactions between cultures in tourism and travel. This new volume, Intercultural Communication in Tourism, presents a holistic approach that broadly integrates different perspectives and emphasizes incorporating language and cultural teaching to promote cross-cultural consciousness, flexibility, knowledge gain, and functional communicative skills, which are necessary in the tourism industry.

In this volume, the authors address how cultural differences can impact the experience of both tourists and service providers and determine why these elements should be understood and learned to promote friendly interactions. By presenting effective intercultural communication techniques, the book helps to empower industry experts to manage these interactions more effectively, resulting in the smooth exchange of services as well as better understanding and mutual respect between cultures.

Utilizing the authors’ practical expertise in tourism studies and communications, the chapters apply theories and examples from real life with case studies and research findings that illustrate the traps and advantages of intercultural interactions. Chapters consider the relationships between cultural diversity, tourism, and sustainability while looking at the integration of emerging technologies, the effect of media coverage on destination image, building trust and rapport with international guests in hospitality, tourism commercialization and authenticity, the effect of sports tourism on local populations, and more.

Both a scholarly reference and a field guide for anyone whose business deals with the tourist sector, this volume will be valuable for research scholars, tourism professionals, faculty and students, and others interested in enhancing sustainable tourism through intercultural communication.
