The transition toward a sustainable and resource-efficient economy has placed new demands on materials science and catalysis. Conventional catalytic systems, though effective, often rely on nonrenewable resources and can generate secondary environmental burdens. In contrast, biobased catalysts offer pathways that bring together waste utilization, renewability, performance, and environmental responsibility.

This new volume,Biobased Catalysts for a Green Economy: Waste Valorization, Sustainable Materials, and Energy Applications, presents a focused account of how biomass, agricultural residues, and other renewable resources can be transformed into functional catalytic and bio-based materials for energy, environmental, and chemical applications. With a strong research perspective, the volume considers synthesis, catalytic activity, structure–property relationships, reusability, and practical limitations. Chapters explore biomass-derived catalysts and green materials, nano-enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic waste, agricultural waste valorization for bioenergy, heterogeneous catalysts from waste biomass, carbon-based photocatalysts for hydrogen production, polymer-based electrocatalysts, and eco-friendly biopolymers.

Along with advances in catalytic efficiency and material design, the contributors consider stability, deactivation, scalability, and other challenges central to real-world adoption. The volume demonstrates how waste biomass can become a valuable resource for developing cleaner materials, renewable energy technologies, and more sustainable chemical processes.

Key features:
• Provides current perspectives on biomass-derived catalysts and sustainable materials.
• Explores catalytic approaches for waste valorization, bioenergy, hydrogen production, and biomass conversion.
• Describes emerging bio-based materials and biopolymers derived from agricultural wastes.
• Addresses practical issues affecting scalability, stability, reusability, and application.

Overall, the book provides a thorough overview of the growing role of biomass-derived catalysts and materials in developing cleaner, more resource-efficient, and resilient technological systems.
