This new book, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning in Combating Counterterrorism, provides an in-depth look at the ground-breaking potential of complex computational technologies in tackling the modern challenges of terrorism. The book gathers top scholars in fields such as computer science, security studies, and policy analysis to present a multidisciplinary overview of the role of AI and DL in relation to counterterrorism. The book details exactly how AI and DL can be used to improve threat detection, analysis, and prevention. The chapters explore issues such as how to best use machine-learning algorithms to surface patterns of online radicalization, how to detect suspicious financial transactions, how to analyze enormous datasets of intelligence to identify hidden linkages between terrorist networks, and more. It also discusses the use of computer vision in security and surveillance and covers advances in developing intelligent systems capable of forecasting and averting terrorist attacks.

The book goes beyond the technical merits, however, to address the ethical and legal ramifications of using AI and DL in counterterrorism, raising some major concerns about privacy, bias, and how these technologies might also be misused. The book highlights how to build responsible and accountable AI systems and the role that humans and legal frameworks play in the context of AI.

A truly timely and required reading resource for researchers, policymakers, security professionals, and students, this volume advocates for the innovative use of artificial intelligence to grasp the changing world of counterterrorism.
