Reviews
“One of the earliest and most comprehensive books to consider this new generation concept . . . [It] considers not only the scientific aspects but also the challenges associated with the design of materials, integration of systems, regulation, and social impact of using such a highly advanced technology. . . . Invaluable.”
—Foreword by Sateesh Kumar Vemula, PhD, Postdoctoral Research Associate, Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi, Oxford MS, USA

The pharmaceutical industry is undergoing a remarkable transformation, moving from traditional drug formulation techniques toward highly advanced, precise, and adaptive approaches. This new volume, 6D Printing Technology in the Pharmaceutical Industry: Intelligent Materials, Adaptive Drug Delivery, and Personalized Healthcare, explores the frontier of this evolution, where time, stimulus-responsiveness, intelligent materials, automation, and adaptive feedback converge to enable the development of dynamic and personalized pharmaceutical products.

Bringing together expertise from pharmaceutics, materials science, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and regulatory policy, this volume provides a comprehensive overview of the principles, materials, design considerations, enabling technologies, and emerging applications of 6D printing in pharmaceutical science. Chapters trace the evolution from 3D and 4D printing to 6D printing and examine smart and stimuli-responsive materials, AI and machine learning, robotics, personalized drug delivery, self-adaptive implants, biosensors, tissue-engineering scaffolds, vaccines and biologics, and macromolecule delivery.

The book also explores the digital infrastructure supporting this emerging field, including big data, the Internet of Things, digital twins, simulation, and advanced software platforms. Beyond scientific and technological advances, it addresses regulatory and ethical considerations, manufacturing scalability, quality assurance, startups and innovation, clinical translation, commercialization, and the education and skills needed for the future pharmaceutical workforce.

Offering a multidisciplinary perspective on an emerging generation of intelligent pharmaceutical manufacturing, this volume provides a valuable reference for researchers, scientists, pharmaceutical technologists, biomedical engineers, industry professionals, regulators, and healthcare innovators seeking to understand the opportunities and challenges of adaptive 6D printing technologies.
